Book: Burgo Chieti: l'ultimo corteo
Burgo Chieti: l'ultimo corteo is a photojournalistic report of May 30, 2008. On that day, the workers of the Burgo plant in Chieti held a protest rally against the decision to shut the factory down.
With a much different style than Glimpses, Burgo Chieti: l'ultimo corteo covers the moments of the protest, beginning with the workers' gathering and all the way to the meeting with the mayor at the City Hall. Twelve images report the unexpected change in route towards the Province Hall, along with the tension it caused.
Furthermore, several pictures of the plant are added at the end, testifying how the area looked to anyone who happened to be in the then-deserted Via Piaggio during the summer of 2008. The disheartening sense of desolation yielded by an abandoned historical factory can be felt through the images.
With no intention of talking about politics, Burgo Chieti: l'ultimo corteo tells the story of the disapointment and rage of 300 workers who tried to show their desires to keep making one of the highest-quality papers in Europe.
Here are a few samples of the 70 pictures shown in the book. Please note that the watermark and the cross are not printed on the book; they serve merely as a deterrent against image thievery. Moreover, the images in the book are cropped according to my sense of creativity; what I am showing here is the raw drafts.
In addition to the above samples, a preview of a few pages of the book is available here.
Burgo Chieti: l'ultimo corteo comes in three versions: Softcover, Hardcover with dust jacket and Hardcover ImageWrap. The only difference lies in the cover, as the contents are the same. Furthermore, the contents of the dust jacket are replicated on a page at the end of the book, so that buyers of the other two versions don't miss out on anything.
Burgo Chieti: l'ultimo corteo is printed on demand whenever a customer purchases it. Upon completion of the payment, Blurb (the publisher) prints a copy and ships it as soon as it is ready; the whole process takes a total of ten days or so. Each copy of the book is therefore printed professionally when needed, ensuring that it is almost literally hot from the press. Note that the prices in U.S. Dollars and U.K. Pounds are not rounded, as the official prices are in Euro and are converted automatically to reflect the current exchange rate.
